Communication Acoustics Laboratory

Shaping audio for the future of communication

Welcome to Communication Acoustics Laboratory (CAL).

Communication acoustics is a discipline concerned about the science and technology around human’s communication by sound and how it is affected by surrounding environments. It deals with problems at the intersection of subdisciplines in acoustics, in particular, electro-acoustics (electronics and audio signal processing), physics acoustics (sound propagation) and human science and arts (speech science, psychology, linguistics, music).

At CAL, we are passionate about solving problems related to sound for achieving better human communication and improving our understanding of surrounding environments by integrating multidisciplinary knowledge. The CAL is part of the Acoustics and Vibration Research Centre, Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering, the University of Auckland.
